Bridging the way between Tennessee and North Carolina, this gap is the passageway of the Appalachian trail and the sight where Theadore Rosevelt gave his historic speech dedicating the national park on September 2, 1940.

Little duck hawk Ridge - Mnt. leconte

Jutting out from the mountainside along the trail to Mount Leconte, this ridge is quite striking. It is named after the Peregrine Falcons who are known to nest on its sheer cliffs. If you are at the right angle, you can see right through the mountain! There a hole in the cliff that passes through the top of the ridge. A spectacular location.
