Join us February 13th on the mountain at Eagle Rock Retreat Center
Treat yourself or someone you love to a full day of floral design, gourmet dining and painting workshop.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show your favorite creative (or yourself) that you love them and that you see the value in their passionate pursuits. That’s why we have worked hard to provide this special event: “A Creative’s Valentine”. It is a day dedicated to creating beauty in an atmosphere of peace and joy.
Celebrating has been hard this year. Traditional venues are hard to come by, so why not shake things up a bit? This doesn’t mean you have to skimp on thoughtful ways to bless someone. Instead of the traditional restaurants, boxed chocolates, and traditional bouquets, why not:
A day trip with beautiful, sweeping mountain views
A catered gourmet lunch
Time with flowers: hand-selecting and creating their own floral bouquet, enjoying the sweet fragrance of fresh blooms, and the soul satisfaction of designing a work of art with them.
Dedicated hours for painting their floral during their still-life training with professional artist Jonathan Howe
Did we mention how beautiful the view is? Hot teas, coffee and drinks as well as snacks will be available throughout the day. And at the end of the day, your loved one will be returning home with their own floral specific to their tastes—their hand-painted still life, forever commemorating their time there, a lifelong memory and the awareness that they are not just loved but seen and honored.
If you are a husband/wife in search of something unique to gift their spouse this is it! Couples are welcomed to come together. Contact us directly for the pricing.
If you are single and value your creative passion and want to make time for yourself, this is the event for you!
If you are a friend of a lovely creative, this event is an unforgettable gift waiting to be given!
Media (enough for the class) will be included at registration; however, if you wish bring a new set of gouache painting materials home, Media Kits are available that include all supplies being used for the class. (high quality materials sourced by artist Jonathan Howe, detailed list at the bottom of the page).
Sarah and I clearly do not take art and creativity lightly. The life of an artist is a valuable treasure worth investment, worth time, fun, and worthy of all the best “ingredients” to make your time creating both successful and satisfying. This event is a reflection of our convictions and our passions to see our fellow artists succeed in their passions, and know that they are seen and worth investment.

Floral Design
Discover the joy of floral arrangement with Sarah Howe.
“If you had asked me years ago where I’d see myself today in 2021, flowers would not have been my response. However, here I am today a full-blown, bona fide “flower lady”. I LOVE flowers, and as crazy as it sounds, I’ll wax poetic and say I think I love them because they first loved me. I cannot say that I did anything to “deserve” these beautiful blooms.
Years ago I was gifted a bag of Dahlia bulbs which uneducated, I , without care threw in the ground, and wouldn’t you know it, they bloomed! That was the beginning of my love affair with flowers, truly it was a love affair for beauty. Fast-forward to today, and my little backyard has been handed over to all things petalled. My spring through fall seasons are drenched in vases, sweet aromas and color, and my winter seasons are given to planning and dreaming for the next planting.
I do not call myself a florist (perhaps someday I will), but I am ardently in love with creating florals, and apparently many of you are as well. After two sold out shows and much feedback from some of you, I have sought professional wisdom, sought out education, and learned that I just love, love, love to create, and I want to share that with you.
As we spend time together with these generous flowers, my prayer is that you experience the absolute joy and satisfaction that I experience every time my hand touches a stem. My hope is that your passion for beauty grows and that you come away knowing you can create/cultivate for yourself an atmosphere of daily delight. I am not a professional, but I am passionate, and I am so thankful that I get to share my passion with you!” - Sarah Howe
Drawing Instruction
I believe that the journey of artistic creativity begins with the pencil. The simplicity of the line and direct contact with the paper is the starting point for great art. I began my artistic journey with just the pencil and it still is so satisfying to create with.
Laying the foundation to a painting creates the framework for anything to follow, but it also is an art form in itself. The drawing board is a place of no pressure. It is a place to freely explore form and design.

Gourmet Lunch
Enjoy a delicious lunch catered by Dancing Bear Lodge’s Appalachian Bistro while relaxing and taking in the 180 degree views of the Great Smoky Mountains National park from Eagle Rock’s beautiful location.
Choose at registration from two meal options and sides.
Gouache Painting Instruction
While oil painting has been Jonathan Howe’s main medium to use, increasingly he has relied on the flexibility and ease of Gouache to quickly work out compositions and design. In discovering this underused medium, he has grown to love and use it in finished works of art. The simplicity of gouache will grow on you.
Receive hands on instruction and demonstration in Gouache painting of the beautifully designed florals. Whether you are an avid painter and creator or simply want to have a fun time exploring your creativity, this is an event for you. Experiment with new possibilities of Gouache painting. Gouache is simply an Opaque watercolor that enables tremendous flexibility in painting. Unlike watercolor, you can layer paint to create texture and depth not achievable in watercolor.
Come learn, experiment and grow as a creative!
Enjoy the day of painting in the incredible studio space of Eagle Rock Creatives perched high off the Foothills Parkway overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Come away refreshed, inspired, bringing your beautiful floral design and paintings home with you.
